54142 – Sugar
Update 10/16: Sugar is making progress in being more comfortable with people. Unfortunately, she has tested positive for heartworms. While Athenspets & ACCAS will help with the cost of treatment, a rescue should be prepared for some added expense and the exercise restrictions of treatment. To learn more about preventing and treating heartworms, please go to the American Heartworm Society’s website.
Sugar could use some sweet kindness in her life. She’s always lived outside, and when her owners moved, they just left her behind. She had been on her own for so long that it took time to catch her and bring her to the shelter. Sugar is frightened, and when I first met her, she was visibly shaking and her tail was tucked tight. I sat on the bench and waited as she checked out her surroundings. Eventually, she didn’t run when I approached and let me scratch her back and behind her ears. Even though she was uncertain, she never snapped at me. When she finally took treats from me, I felt like she was a little more comfortable though I know it will take time for her to feel safe and at ease. Until that happens, Sugar is only available to rescues. How wonderful it would be for her to be rescued and finally know what it’s like to be cared for and loved.
