Update 1/29: Scout was with another volunteer when I stopped by for a visit. He’s still energetic, but now that he’s more familiar with all that’s going on, he could focus on commands and show how well he could sit. He’d sit for a treat or wait to have his toy thrown. He loves toys and also really enjoys being with other dogs at the fence. He and Luigi had fun running together. It’s good to see Scout settling in and having fun. He needs to work on his leash manners and understand that a leash isn’t a toy, but he’ll get there with practice and patience.
Scout was ready to run when he entered the interaction pen. He had been cooped up long enough, and it was time to stretch his legs. He spied a toy, picked it up, and ran, ran, ran with it. I just stood back and watched him go. When puppy Tasha entered the pen next to us, Scout had a new objective—to play with a new friend. He loved running with Tasha and only took breaks for water. An officer told me that Scout likes other dogs and was probably missing his brother. He was surrendered because they would fuss over food even though they were fed separately. Scout is a big, strong dog who never tires of running, playing, and having fun.
