Medical Case – Treated for Heartworms 4/16 & 4/17
Why choose me?
Update 4/17: Thanks to donations to the Athenspets Medical Fund, Wayne has been treated for heartworms and is on crate rest for the next month. Please wish this handsome pup well while he recovers!
Update: Wayne would do best as an only pup in a home initially–he’s still learning proper manners with other dogs. To foster (or adopt or rescue) him, please contact the shelter at 706-613-3540.
Update 2/23: Wayne has been at Athens animal shelter for almost 2 months waiting for someone to see how special he is 😭 he’s super smart, knows sit and shake, walks perfectly on a leash🐶and I assume he is house trained, because his run was spotless🏡 he’s SOOO soft and fluffy!❤️ he’s in desperate need of a rescue or home, he is Heartworm positive 🥺 and will need to be treated. Watch the videos to see how hilarious this guy is! He will definitely keep the lucky person that gets him very entertained🥳🥰🤓
Update 1/26: Unfortunately, Wayne has tested positive for heartworms. Athenspets will do our best to help with the cost of treatment, but a rescue or adopter needs to be prepared for the added expenses and exercise restrictions of treatment. To learn more about heartworms, including how to prevent and treat them, please go to the American Heartworm Society’s webpage.
Wayne is a big, handsome fellow. When he first entered the interaction pen, he greeted and played with Summer along the fence and then went about checking out all the scents. With that taken care of, he was ready to show me what a smart, well-behaved boy he was. Wayne was always happy to please me for treats and would hop on the table, sit, and shake for them. When I stopped giving him treats, he held out his paw as if to say, “I’d like another one, please.” Of course, I couldn’t resist good manners. Wayne’s former owner said he’s good with kids and lived with chickens. He lived outdoors and isn’t house trained yet, but I imagine he’d love being inside with his loved ones. Wayne is a friendly dog who enjoys being with people!
