Why choose me? Update 11/15: Hercules’ heart worm treatment is almost over! That means he can go back to playing fetch and rough housing! He’s been a wonderful foster! Like all dogs with his background we’ve had some ups and downs but he has shown great improvement from when I first got him! He does really well with my cats and did well with another foster I brought home for one night! And thinks he is a lap dog! And has never shown any signs of aggression! He hardly ever barks and doesn’t react to other dogs on walks! Some things to know before adopting him is that he is skittish around men (so some extra time will need to be taken for him to be comfortable), he likes to wrestle and nibble(so while I think he will be great with kids maybe he should be around bigger kids that don’t mind rough housing and a wet finger or two.) He also has a bit of a pull when he’s being walked but nothing that can’t be fixed! He’s a really sweet boy and is ready for his forever home!
Update 10/31 & 11/1: Hercules has received his Diroban shots to kill his heartworms. He will be on crate rest for the next month while he recovers. Wish this handsome hunk well!
Update 10/20: Hercules is enjoying life with his foster as he begins his heart worm treatment! He is doing great in the home and loves lounging on the couch! Some bonuses: he’s house broken and doing well living with cats 🐱!!! He will be ready for his forever home once he is finished with his treatment.
Update 10/8: Hercules is in a shelter foster home. To make arrangements to meet him, please call the shelter at 706-613-3540 or message our Facebook page (Athenspets – GA)!
Update 9/16: Hercules and Chiquita were playmates. Chiquita was adopted today, but it’s nice to know that Hercules played well with another dog! I’ve always found Hercules to be a sweet, easy-going fellow. He’s well-mannered, enjoys attention, and has been friendly to everyone he’s met. He’s a super dog who’s still waiting for his special person or family to find him.
Update 8/20: Unfortunately, Hercules has tested positive for heartworms. While Athenspets will try to help with the cost of treatment, an adopter or rescue needs to be prepared to cover at least some of the expense. For more information about heartworms, including what treating them involves, please go to the American Heartworm Society’s webpage,
The best part of my day was getting to meet this lovable goofball named Hercules! This sweet boy was so excited to go play in a pen with me and really loved getting some butt scratches! His facial expressions for my photos were cracking me up, I really think they show his playful, energetic spirit. I did notice that Hercules would occasionally run to the fence door looking for a way to get out and go do some more exploring. Perhaps that is how he ended up at ACCAC. In fact, this is not the first time Hercules has been picked up as a stray. Unfortunately, staff are unable to reach his owner this time. Therefore, if he is not reclaimed, this adorable ham will be looking for a new forever family! He seemed excited to meet other dogs, wagging his tail furiously when meeting along the fenceline. Come check out Hercules, he is a very friendly and fun young dog!
