Medical Case – Heartworms
Why choose me?
Update from Maxine’s Overnight Foster 3/18: Maxine is doing a short-term fostering gig, and she is a wonderful houseguest! Her temp foster writes:
“Maxine and I had a great overnight. She saw horses, geese and the neighbors’ cat (cat never ran so they just looked at each other). She did well in her in the crate. No accidents in the house. She is curious and likes to check things out. Rides well in the car. Loves to be petted. She is so sweet.”
Update 2/13: Thanks to donations to the Spay/Neuter Fund, Maxine is spayed and up-to-date on her basic vaccinations!
Update 2/2: Maxine is one of those gals who likes to have fun and who also can act like a lady. I’ve had the pleasure to interact with Miss Maxine about 3 times now, and each time has been a real treat! Oops, did I say, treat? Well, this girl loves them and she really enjoys putting on a performance by tossing a toy or ball in the air and doing a routine that is a cross between a seal and a soccer player. Now, for the “lady” part, she seems to have some manners, doesn’t seem like a “loudmouth”, and seems to show a level of civility toward other dogs (even a rude one who attempted to relieve himself on her through the fence 🙂 ). Before our playtime ended, she came over and put her head on my shoulder and let me give her a few minutes of pets.
Update 2/2: Unfortunately, Maxine has tested positive for heartworms. To learn more about heartworms and their treatment, please go to the American Heartworm Society webpage. For information about the cost of treating them, talk to your veterinarian.
Maxine is a happy girl who’s ready to play! She had the best time chasing toys and tossing them around. Each time I threw one, she’d run and leap to get it. She weighs 60 pounds but can fly! She tried to engage Winterfell in play by running at the fence with a toy, but after one race, he was ready to sit with his volunteer. That was okay because Maxine can entertain herself. She likes pets, treats, and sharing her big smile. She’s a sweet, fun dog waiting to meet her next new friend!
