47778 – Zane
Why choose me?
Update 9/1: Zane was adopted but returned for being mouthy. He’s still a sweet boy but needs help in learning that being mouthy is not acceptable. Offering a toy instead of chewing on you works for some dogs. Giving a high pitched yelp and turning away from the dog when being mouthed works with others. The ASPCA has several suggestions on their website here. It’s a puppy-like behavior that can be fixed. Zane has been a volunteer and staff favorite. I’ve always known him to be a playful and affectionate dog who loves being with you. Hopefully, he’ll find a new home soon.
Update 7/12: I watched today as Zane was tested with an alpha female dog. He was great! It was obvious that Zane wanted to play but backed off when she gave cues that she did not. Still wagging his tail, Zane found something else to do. He’s also good with kids. This is what his advocate had to say: “Zane is such a sweet boy! He walked so well for my daughter on the leash. He loved being in the interaction run with us. It was hot out and he was happy to go in the water for my daughter. A total, laid back family dog. While he doesn’t know any commands, he is completely capable. He didn’t bark at other people or dogs as they walked by. Easy to Advocate for this handsome guy. Someone needs to snatch this sweet boy up and adopt him!”
Update 7/11: Thanks to donations to the Spay/Neuter Fund, Zane has been neutered and brought up-to-date on his basic vaccinations.
Zane is a fun, friendly boy with smiles and tail wags to share. He had a great time playing fetch and played round after round with me. It was a hot day, but Zane knew just what to do to cool off–chill in the kiddie pool! Afterwards, he lounged in the shade of my umbrella and was happy for pets and treats. I couldn’t resist testing Zane’s love for toys and threw his favorite one for him to retrieve. His love was true, and Zane left his shady spot to chase the toy and bring back to his retreat. Zane is a sweet, fun dog who’d be a great buddy for anyone looking for a playful boy who also knows how to sit back, relax, and enjoy the day!
