Update 8/27/17: Thomas was pretty scruffy when he first came in, but his scratch marks have now healed up nicely, and Thomas is looking like the handsome guy he’s always been meant to be. On my last trip to the shelter, I didn’t have a lot of time to spend with him because we had so many other new kitties to document, but I couldn’t resist snapping a quick photo of him through his kennel door because he was so cute rolled over on his back as if inviting passersby to stop in for a cuddle. Thomas is a laid back, friendly guy, who’s happy to be living the “good life” at the shelter. I really hope that he finds a home soon where he will have his own bed to sleep in, a warm window to nap in front of, and lots of toys and treats. This guy deserves to be spoiled, and it’s always a little bittersweet to see an animal at the shelter who’s doing so well here because his previous life has obviously been so hard.

You can see from his photos that Thomas has lived a rough life on the streets. When he first arrived at the shelter, Thomas was covered in fleas. Thanks to the caring shelter staff, he’s now flea-free and on the mend. He’s still got scratch marks on his nose, a wound at the base of his tail (which is in the process of healing), and some thinning fur (from scratching flea bites). We think that Thomas is actually a medium-haired cat, because he has a fluffy tail. Once he heals, and his fur grows back, Thomas will a new cat altogether! As far as his demeanor, Thomas has been grumpy at times – understandably with being in strange place and constant poking and prodding. But in general, he’s quite friendly and will come right up to you for some petting if you open his kennel door. All Thomas needs now, is a special someone to give him a second chance in life. Will you the one to step up and be his hero?
